Terms of service
Last updated 5 August 2026.
- Who you contract with
- Podlaps Inc., Ontario, Canada (postal address available on written request) (“we”), governed by the law of Ontario, Canada. Contact: support@podlaps.com.
- What you are buying
- A licence to use Podlaps. You are not buying the software itself, and no copyright transfers to you. The free plan needs no payment and no account.
- What the licence permits
- Install and use Podlaps on any computer you own or control, for as many sets of headphones as your plan allows. You may not resell it, redistribute it, or remove or work around the licence checks.
- Content is your responsibility
- Podlaps copies files you direct it to. It does not host, supply or index any audio. You are responsible for having the right to download and copy whatever you point it at, and for complying with the terms of any service you fetch from — including YouTube, whose terms restrict downloading. Use the software only for content you are entitled to.
- It deletes files, by design
- Keeping a device current means removing episodes it has replaced. Podlaps only ever deletes files it recorded writing itself, and only after a replacement is verified on the device. Even so, keep your own copies of anything you cannot replace. We are not liable for lost audio.
- Third-party components
- Podlaps ships FFmpeg (LGPL v3) and yt-dlp (Unlicense), each run as a separate process and neither modified. Their licences travel with the download and continue to govern those components. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the LGPL.
- No warranty
- Provided as is. We do not warrant that it is uninterrupted or error free, that any particular device or feed will work, or that a third-party service it depends on will keep behaving as it does today. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and if you buy as a consumer your statutory rights are unaffected.
- Limit of liability
- To the extent the law allows, our total liability is capped at what you paid in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for lost data, lost recordings, or any indirect or consequential loss.
- Things outside our control
- Podlaps depends on services we do not run: Apple's podcast directories, podcast publishers' feeds and servers, and YouTube. Any of them may change or withdraw access at any time. If that removes a feature, we will say so plainly, and the refund policy applies.
- Ending it
- You may stop using Podlaps at any time. We may end your licence if you breach these terms. If we end it for any other reason, we will refund the unused part of anything you paid.
- Changes
- We may update these terms. Material changes will be dated here and, for anyone on a paid plan, sent to the email on the account before they apply.
